What is lenticular imaging?

Lenticular imaging is a process that dates back to the 19th century;

Until now, however, it has been little used, due to the poor results obtained. Butlenticular printing is now making a comeback in the advertising industry! Not least thanks to the quality and advent of new, increasingly powerful image processing software.

Lenticular imagery is a modified image, made up of a set of images, which can be seen by human eyes without any special equipment (3ds glasses, for example).

In order to produce a lenticular image, it is necessary to bring together different images, from a minimum of 2 for a flip flop effect, to more than 20 if the expected result is an animation or 3D effect.

The choice oflenticular imaging system comes down to different possibilities, which can be combined. Flip flop, Motion, Zoom, 3D relief.

The choice of system depends essentially on the message intended for the target.

Explanation of the various processes

TheFlip-Flop effect: the easiest to create, requiring only two different images, which change according to the angle of view. Most often used to create postcards and business cards.

TheMOTION effect: directly derived from the Flip flop effect, this is used for complex movements or animations. The background image remains fixed. For a quality rendering, at least 6 images are required, to best decompose the movement.

ZOOM effect: depending on the viewing angle, objects appear to move closer together or further apart.

Morphing effect: this process requires considerable image processing to achieve a satisfactory result. It's a gradual adaptation, a transition, of the object according to the angle of view.

The3D effect: thanks to the advent of this technique in the audiovisual world, particularly in cinema, 3D lenticular animations have become very popular.

In fact, this is the only technique for creating a 3D image without the need to wear special glasses to see it.

What lenticular promotional items are available?

The characteristics oflenticular imaging mean that it can be used for a wide range of applications, and can be adapted to many different media.

Four-color printing is possible and, like paper, all formats and finishes are available.

The possible uses are many and varied, from children's gifts (magnets, rulers, cups, etc.) to business gifts (business cards, mouse pads, calendars, etc.).
