An alternative to plastic goodies?

Goodies made with alternative materials to plastic

To do this, we've broken down alternative products into two categories. First, we'll talk about materials of natural origin that can decompose rapidly in our environment. Then we'll talk about the circular economy in the promotional products sector, by recycling existing elements to avoid dumping new products on the market, while reducing the energy impact of creating the goodies.

Goodies & promotional items made from natural materials:

PLA, or polylactic acid, is a plastic widely used in our society. More precisely, it's a bio-plastic, made from starch from corn, sugar cane, beet, etc. It's entirely biodegradable. PLA is entirely biodegradable, so goodies made from it do not pollute nature at the end of their life.

Glass is is made from natural materials: sand, soda & limestone. The latter is produced by combining these 3 elements at high temperature. Although glass has a long degradation period, averaging 4,000 years, it can be infinitely modulated for goodies that keep on renewing themselves.

Bamboo is one of the most water-efficient plants, with rapid, strong growth. It can replenish itself in as little as a year without fertilizer. Bamboo is renewable, strong and durable. Bamboo can be found in the category of promotional items for the kitchen: mugs, cutting boards, or in the aesthetic category: toothbrushes, combs, soap dishes, etc.

During roasting, the pod is usually discarded. It's an environmentally-friendly resource that can replace plastic in certain advertising objects. After oil, coffee is the world's second most traded commodity, which means that there are huge opportunities for this material in the advertising sector. The coffee industry allows us to recover waste to create a variety of advertising objects.

Wheat straw is generally an agricultural waste product left over from the extraction of cereals or the cultivation of wheat. This material can be reused in an environmentally-friendly way, reducing the proportion of plastic used in goodies such as glasses.

Cork comes from the bark of the oak tree. When it is removed, a new layer is formed, making it a 100% renewable resource. What's more, cork is elastic, waterproof and soft to the touch, making it ideal for streamlined goodies.

Recycled materials for upcycling goodies

Cotton is the world's most widely used textile fiber. Mainly grown in India, China and the United States, cotton requires a mild climate and large quantities of water (around 11,000 liters of water for 1 kilo of cotton). Recycling cotton using materials already in use or waste from industrial production can drastically reduce water consumption, in some cases by up to 98%.

Recycled paper is becoming more and more common, and its price is close to or even lower than that of conventional paper. Paper will soon no longer come from trees, but from recycling. Paper and cardboard contain biodegradable fiber, which promotes recycling.

Creating your own bespoke goodies requires you to think about their purpose. What is the target of this goodie, but also the image it should convey of your company. Choosing an environmentally-friendly material for your promotional item is a great opportunity. Marketing Création can help you create your customized goodies.
